Come Join The Fun And Support CTN
Telethon 25 Continuous Hours of All These Local Talents

Support Community Television Network and celebrate amazing, local talent at our First Annual Telethon!

The First Annual CTN Telethon is JAM PACKED with local musical talent, dancing, political discourse, sports talk, art demonstrations, classes and all the vibrant energy that only community television can offer. The telethon will air nonstop beginning on Friday, September 22nd at 9pm until Saturday night, September 23 at 10pm.

This one-day event will feature community performers and leaders, our dedicated producers and volunteers as well as staff and other supporters who will be on the air asking for donations to support the station. The 25-hour telethon will be filled with a variety of activity and entertainment (more details below). Viewers can watch CTN5 on cable TV in Portland for the entire 25 hours and are also invited to come to our studio at 516 Congress Street in Portland to watch events live and participate in the fun. There is a suggested donation at the door (children 12 and under will be admitted free). A donation of $20 gives you annual individual membership to CTN for a year.

The purpose of the Telethon is to CTN needs to continue to showcase the wide variety of local activities and talent that make for great community television. Donations will also be used to support our vital education activities. For over 30 years one of CTN’s major activities has been to teach Portland residents how to use our studio and production equipment to make their own TV programs. We hope the telethon will reach a large audience of viewers who may not yet be aware of all the CTN has to offer.

Portland Mayor Ethan Strimling will kick-off the Telethon and debate a formidable conservative opponent on Friday night. Musical talent Heath MacVane, the band Lacuna, highlights from the new rock opera One Way Trip to Mars, David Bullard, a battle of the bands at 1AM, and a reggae after-after dance party from 3AM-6AM will follow.

The action will continue in the morning with a yoga class, children’s programs, a Tai Chi class and the Andromeda Brass band. In the afternoon, Portland Playback Theater will offer an improvisation class and a group of artists will paint to music while viewers make bids on their paintings. Greg Kesich will moderate a debate with Portland City Council candidates and there will be sports talk shows about bicycling and softball.

The Telethon finale will include flutist Lesley Elkin, Circus Maine and Primo Cubano. (The greatest spectacle of all will likely be our staff, volunteers and Board members who decide to keep each other company and stay awake for the entire event!)

Thank you for your support of CTN!
